Leon Maggio Obituary

On Thursday, September 22nd, 2016 this world lost an amazing man, Leon Maggio Jr. Leon died at the young age of 48, after suffering a long illness at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Leon was born on May 22, 1968 in New York and was a long time resident of Longwood, Fl. He is survived by both his mother, Mary Maggio-Cox and stepfather, James Cox; his father, Leon Maggio Sr., and stepmother, Jeannie Maggio; his brother Charles Maggio; sister-in-law, Rebekah Maggio; former Spouse, Melissa Maggio and their two beloved daughters, Sophia Maggio, age 12, and Alexa Rodriguez, age 20; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by grandparents, Gezzina and Benedetto Velocci; Lucy and Charles Maggio.

Leon will be remembered as someone with a unique soul having an avid passion for fishing, boating, outdoor activities, cooking, and his infectious sense of humor. He spent the last few months with his immediate family doing everything he loved. Spending quality time with his two daughters, and creating these lasting memories was his accomplished goal.

The family would like to express their thanks to ALL who helped Leon throughout his difficult time. We know he truly appreciated each and everyone of of you dearly.

“Leon, may you rest in peace catching big fish and watching over us from Heaven”.


Memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 1st at the Longwood Baptist Church, 891 East SR 434, Longwood, Fl. 32750. The family will receive friends and family at 10:30 am with services beginning at 11:00 am. Lunch following in the Maggio home - 1025 Bucksaw Pl. Longwood, Fl. 32750.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a Trust Fund set up for Alexa and Sophia. Donations are greatly appreciated and should be written to Charles Maggio, with “Alexa and Sophia trust fund” written on check.
