In Loving Memory of Dorothy Evelyn Fischer
12-6-1924 to 1-10-2017


This was such an interesting and adventured filled life. Although 92 years is long time, it wasn’t long enough for those of us that knew Evelyn.

She was born in New Jersey. 1 of 6 children in an Irish Catholic, Hungarian home. They lived in a wonderful neighborhood with many different ethnic neighbors. There she met her best friend of 80 years. Mom was an instant hit with her new Italian family and they were like sisters to this day.

Evelyn was also a tomboy. The story goes that none of the kids were allowed to play marbles with her anymore because she won all the marbles. Her mom was a baker and her dad a WW1 veteran.
She always told the story about getting one ice skate for her birthday and the other ice skate for Christmas. She went on a trip a few years ago to Virginia with her son and his family where they helped her ice skate one more time. Good times were had by all.

When she went to work at IBM she met another best friend for life who introduced her to her husband’s brother. After 1 blind date they both thought that the other one talked too much. But, 1 year later they met again they fell in love. She was married for over 43 years to Howard, who passed away in 2002. They would find somewhere to dance no matter where they went. Hawaii, Turkey, The Caribbean, New Jersey, California and many other places.

They had 2 children together, Laura and Drew. The family went to many places in their pop-up camper that didn’t need a toilet or an air conditioner. There were bowling leagues and tournaments, softball games and football games, voice lessons, going to the beach, fishing, and so many other fun adventures together. She also chaperoned school trips including going to New Orleans with the High School French Class filled with 16 year olds.

Evelyn loved playing games including pinochle, rummy and scrabble. When playing scrabble she always wanted the triple point words and yes she was a bit of a cheater…even in the last game. The last game we played was about a week ago. She needed help with the letter cubes. And played a word “coatee”. She used it in a sentence…get your coatee little girl. I let her use it and she won.

She really loved people. She was a great story teller. She made people smile and laugh. Many comment on how well she communicated without pause in the conversation. It was very pleasant to speak with her. Her communication also went to creative writing. She would go to her grandson’s school (she has 3 – Tyler, Luke and Cole) and read her leprechaun story along with some chocolates for all the kids.

She was young at heart, happy, sassy, creative, a real character, story teller, comedian, shopper, spirited, witty and charming person.

She was known for her apple pies, her sausage stuffing and homemade sangria parties.
She was all about her family. And, they were her life.

We love and miss you Puukins. And we know that you are so happy being with your friends and family that went before you across the rainbow bridge to heaven.
