Richard Pinela, 72, departed this life peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2017 in Orlando, FL. Richard was born on June 22, 1944 in New York City to the late Vincente and Carmen Correa-Pinela. He was one of five children.

Richard will be remembered as a compassionate loving father, grandfather, brother and friend whom truly appreciated the gift of life.

He honorably served in the US ARMY from 1962-1968 and served in the Marine Corps Reserves. He later led a successful career as a police officer with the NYPD. Following his retirement, he relocated to Orlando in 1984 coming from Bronx, NY.

Richard lived his life to the fullest! He obtained his massage therapy license, real estate license and certification to teach Qi Gong. He spent much of his time as an active member of the Guang Ming Buddhist Temple. In addition, he taught Qi Gong, Tai Chi and Shibashi at the VA Lake Nona Domiciliary, Renaissance Senior Community Center in Orlando, and the Winter Springs Senior Center. He also gave back to the community by volunteering 10 years at the Florida Hospital Orlando Cancer Institute.

He enjoyed life and some of his favorite hobbies included: going on cruises, playing a good game of golf, cruising on his motorcycle and spending time with his family. He loved his two dogs Fifi and Boots.
He leaves wonderful memories to be cherished by his daughter, Melissa Caccavale (James); granddaughters, Mia and Isabella; brother, Vincent Pinela; and sister, Maria Ayala.

His parents, Vicente and Carmen, his brother, Leonard Pinela, and sister, Adriana Pinela, predeceased him.

Family will greet friends from 10AM to 11AM on Saturday, May 6th at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 113 Lockwood Blvd. Oviedo, FL 32765 with a Memorial Mass to follow at 11AM.

Inurnment with military honors will take place at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, FL at a later date.
