Sergeant First Class Augusto “Tito” Pineiro was born on February 11th, 1979, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He enlisted into the U.S. Army on May 1st, 2002, in Longwood, FL. He attended One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Upon completion of OSUT he was awarded the MOS of 12B, Combat Engineer. SFC Pineiro served at Fort Bragg, NC, with the 307th Engineer Battalion where he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He then served in Tampa, Fl., as an Army Recruiter from October, 2005, to January, 2009. SFC Pineiro returned to Fort Bragg, NC, in January, 2009, to serve with 127th Engineer Company, 82nd Airborne Division, where he completed two more combat tours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In June, 2015, he was assigned to the 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, where he deployed in support of Southern Accord 2016. SFC Pineiro has served in the following leadership positions: Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, and Battalion Assistant Operations Sergeant.

SFC Pineiro’s awards and decorations include the Purple Heart; the Army Commendation Medal with one silver oak leaf cluster; the Army Achievement Medal with three bronze oak leaf clusters; the Army Good Conduct Medal, fifth award; the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with three bronze campaign stars; the Iraq Campaign Medal; the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, with the numeral three; the Army Service Ribbon; the Overseas Service Ribbon; the NATO Service Medal; the Gold Recruiter Badge with three sapphires; the Combat Action Badge; the Senior Parachutist Badge; the Driver’s Badge (Wheeled); the Meritorious Unit Commendation; and a recipient of the Bronze deFluery Medal.

SFC Pineiro is survived by his wife, Nina; his children Tristan, Ashlyn, and Augusto;
his mother Ana Taylor; his stepfather Daniel Taylor, his sister,Ana Maria Pineiro;
and his brother CW2 Ramon Vargas.
