Patricia Parrish West
1937 - 2017

Patricia Parrish West, 80, went to meet the Lord peacefully in her sleep early in the morning of November 30, 2017. Patti was born in Fayetteville, NC on January 5, 1937. She is preceded in death by her parents Capt. And Mrs. Rudolph Parrish of Orlando, and her grandson Joey Minotti.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years Dr. David West (Boone High 1953). Her daughter Wendy and her husband Robert Minotti, son Jonathan and his wife Anne Marie, and her son Dustin and his fiancée Jennifer, 13 grandchildren, one great grandson, and her 10 chihuahuas that she loved dearly.

Patti grew up in various locations such as Alaska, Hawaii and Orlando, FL. She graduated from Edgewater High School where she was a majorette in 1955. Patti married Dr. David West, (Boone High 1953) ,an international Hospital President in 1957 and moved with him to Gamboa, Panama, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Albion Michigan, Boston, MA, and Nashville, TN during their fifty year career managing health care systems and consulting around the world. Patti also worked with missionaries in Panama, traveling to small villages in the jungle only accessible by boat. She and David traveled extensively, including several trips to Israel, Egypt, Scandinavia, Brazil, Europe, and took a trip around the world, stopping in many countries. She attended Florida State University and Albion College, and earned a BS in biochemistry and Board certification as a Medical Technologist, ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists), specializing in Chemistry. She did her internship at the old Orange Memorial Hospital in Orlando. Patti and David lived on the Island in Indian Harbour Beach for 34 years and retired to their country home in Mims, FL in 2007. They spent half of each year in their mountain home in Grassy Fork, TN. Patricia, or Patti as she was called by her friends, was loved by all and had the biggest smile and sweetest personality. During her younger days she did a lot of scuba diving off the islands of Panama and Isla Grande and raced Porsches, taking a 2nd place in Watkins Glenn driving her 1968 Porsche 911S. She accompanied David with their children to many exciting places and always said she had had a wonderful and fulfilling life and had no regrets. She met David in college where he was playing Elvis at a party, singing Elvis’s song “Love me Tender” and afterward David picked out the prettiest girl in the audience and kissed her. This was the beginning of a wonderful life together for the two of them. They had Love me Tender” played at their wedding and the pastor was David’s father, Rev. Brantley D. West. She won the Mrs. Florida State contest and the Mrs. Hawaiian Tropic Contest and other beauty contest. Most of all, she was a loving, good Christian woman that always put God first in her heart and loved her children and her David more than anything. She will be laid to rest on December 9 2017.
