Mary Lou Tipsword
1939 - 2017

Mary Tipsword, daughter of Viola and August Obermeyer and beloved mother of Karen, Linda, Michael, Gerri and Steven and grandmother to Trey, Seth and Riley passed away on Friday, December 8th, 2017.

Besides being a devoted mother and grandmother, Mary led an interesting life. She was from Newport, Kentucky and lived in the northern Kentucky area until her late twenties. She had always wanted to live in Arizona and finally got her chance to move there. This started her cross country journeys. Among the states that she has lived in besides Kentucky and Arizona was Oklahoma, Ohio, Missouri, Georgia and then Florida.

Among her professional accomplishments was being a dispatcher for the Bowling Green, Ky. Fire and police department and was involved in the implementation of the 911 system. Some years later, she and her husband started a hospital management company which she was the Vice President. This included hospitals in North Carolina, Florida, Texas and Alabama. Among other businesses that she owned over the years were a liquor store in Tucson, Arizona, a real estate rental business in Georgia and a tractor and feed dealership in Georgia. She was the assistant manager for the Sports Authority in Altamonte Springs for a number of years after she finally relocated to Florida. Mary also was the chief financial consultant of her daughter’s construction company for several years.

Mary loved animals and one of her birthday wishes every year when she was a child was to have a horse. This was realized when she became an adult and had horse farms in Kentucky, Oklahoma and Georgia. She raised and bred Appaloosa horses and she enjoyed working with the babies. She also had many dogs and cats and a lot of them have a special place in her heart. She was active in tennis and liked to watch her kids in tennis tournaments.

She was always there for her kids and grandkids as they were the most important things in her life. She was supportive in whatever they wanted to do or become. She was the anchor of our family.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 9:00 PM on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions - South Seminole Chapel, 335 E SR 434, Longwood, FL 32750. The funeral service will take place at 7:00 PM.
