Galina Dorothy Spears, 94, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 in Winter Garden, Florida. Galina was born on February 10, 1923 in Harbin, China.

Her father, Fred Floyd Spears of Leakesville, Mississippi, was in the U.S. Navy. Her mother, Elizabeth C. Spears, was a ballerina in Russia.

Galina graduated from both Darwin Grammar and Lindblom High School in Chicago, IL. She spent her 9th grade year of high school in Washington, D.C. She went on to attend Commercial Business School as well as two years of nigh school at Loyola University in Chicago, IL.

She worked for several steel companies and retired after some 31 years at United States Steel Corp. of Chicago, IL.

She, along with her dad, were pioneers of the wooded area that is now "Winsor Manor" in Longwood, FL. She was also an artist, poetess, and a writer, who had a lot of loving cousins and precious friends.
Her motto was "kill them with kindness" -- "Help and share."

A visitation will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 PM on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, 335 E SR 434, Longwood, Florida 32750. A funeral service will be held during the visitation, beginning at 5:00 PM.

She will be laid to rest at Sweetwater Cemetery in Leakesville, Mississippi. Services in Mississippi will be announced on this page as they become available.
