Lillie Ruth Carney, age 57, of Apopka, passed away June 25, 2015.

Lillie Ruth Carney, 57, of Apopka, Florida peacefully transitioned from this life to make heaven her final resting place Thursday, June 25, 2015. Born to the late Walter and Corine Green on September 30, 1957 in Fairfield County, South Carolina. Simply known to family and friends as Ruth, she received her formal education at McCrorey-Liston School. After graduating she went on to attend Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. She later moved to New York and resided there for 16 years.

Ruth held various positions in banks both in New York and after moving to Florida. In 1997, she began working for AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) where she touched many lives and negotiated with many employers to save her clients’ jobs. Respected by her co-workers and clients’ Ruth would always take her job serious and give 110%.

Ruth began her spiritual journey at an early age at St. Peter AME Church in Monticello, South Carolina. A faithful member of New Zion Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, Orlando, Florida; Ruth became the church secretary and maintained that position even during her illness Ruth had many passions in life. Cooking for her family and friends, helping those in need, organizing family gatherings and church functions and most of all being a true and understanding friend to lean on and talk to.

Ruth leaves to cherish and love her memories her husband Alvin Carney, three sons and a daughter, Trevesse Green (Nichole), Antione Green, Darwin Green, of Atlanta and Marsha Carney of Orlando. Three grandchildren, Dane Lindo (Theresa) of Clearwater, Kelani and Sierra Green of North Carolina. Two great-grandchildren, Dane Jr and Aiden. God-daughter, Kindall Leslie; who affectionately calls her “Grandma Ruth” . Six brothers, Bishop William Green (Julia), Walter Green, Jr (deceased)(Carrie), Lindsay Green, Douglas Green, James Green (Bernice), Wylie Green, all of South Carolina. Two devoted sisters, Sarah Green and Sallie Pearson (Mitchell), South Carolina. Brother-in-laws, Neville (Geneva) of England and Gilford Wright (Hyacinth) New York, Sister-in-laws, Beverly McFarland (Kenneth),Boston, Vannie Sinclair, Boston, Deana Hammond, Apopka and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
