Evelyn was born on August 18, 1934 in Jersey City, NJ, daughter of the late Frank and Evelyn Rose (Dunn) Hayes. She was a longtime accountant for Hess Oil before her retirement. On June 6, 1953, she married Robert Wakefield Thomas.
Evelyn was a faithful communicant of Blessed Trinity Church and served as a member of the Council of Catholic Women. She was known as a great organizer and skilled with numbers. Evelyn was the lone female board member of Sea Breeze Mobile Manor in Hope Sound, FL. She was also a member of St. Christopher’s Church and St. Vincent de Paul Society in Hope Sound before moving to Orlando.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Robert Wayne Thomas; two brothers, John Hayes and George Hayes; and her sister, Alice Egan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11:00 am at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, with Fr. Roland Nadeau officiating.
Visitation is Friday, September 28, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - East Orlando Chapel.
