C. Thomas Gartrell passed away on October 8, 2018
due to complications from a five year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He had just celebrated his 70th birthday in August.
He leaves behind his wife Lurae, and his son John Thomas Gartrell, esq.
Tom was born in Gettysburg, PA, but lived his childhood, the son of a dairy farmer, in Taneytown, Md.
He graduated from Frostburg State University and received his Master’s degree from Loyola university in Baltimore.
He taught physical education at North Hartford High School for 2 years and coached their winning soccer team.
His career took a turn when he became a Baltimore city police officer in 1973.
With the police department he became a physical trainer at the police academy.
He took a position as a physical education teacher in Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania after
leaving the police department and retired from teaching 28 years later.
His main hobby after retiring was buying and selling antiques.
He enjoyed traveling, RVing, and purchased a home in the Great Outdoors
RV and Golf resort in Titusville, Florida where he lived until his death.
He was loved by his wife, his son, his colleagues, his friends, and his students,
and will be missed by all. John Thomas Gartrell.
Visitation is Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am
Memorial Service starting at 11:00 am at Newcomer Cremation & Funeral Service - Titusville Chapel.
