He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Carter; his siblings Luther, Robert Lee, George, Bill, and Martha Bell; his son, Mark Carter; and his ex-wife, Barbara Carter.
He is survived by his children, Karen Fischer, Mike Carter, Cindy Carter, and Matt Carter; his grandchildren, Jeff Fischer, Jeremy Fischer, Timothy Carter, Brian Carter, Heather Carter, and Taylor Carter; and eight great-grandchildren.
He enjoyed fly fishing, antique cars, flying planes, boating, and jazz music. Having worked for Martin-Marietta for many years, he had a deep interest in aerospace industry. He had been named the Senior Electronics Engineer of the year during his career. He had a '67 Chevy Impala that he enjoyed showing off at car shows. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
