William Arana Rodriguez Life story video
William Arana Rodriquez at the age of 94 passed away at the comfort of his home in Orlando Florida, surrounded by his family on the 25th day of December, 2018.

He was born in El Barrio Obrero, Santurce, Puerto Rico, December 29, 1923 to Luis Arana Casana and Palmira Rodriguez Garcia.

William was a man of many gifts and talents. His early career was that of a mason in Puerto Rico then eventually trained as a Dental Technician, owning his own labs in New York City and in Rio Grande Puerto Rico.

During his 94 years of life, he proved to be a devoted patriot, husband and father. He loved his Island of Puerto Rico and its people. William would give the shirt of his back when he saw or knew someone in need of help. He saw a need for youth programs and developed a boxing club in his community of Malpica, Rio Grande. This encouraged a promising boxer by the nickname of Violeta to develop his skills and the opportunity to represent Puerto Rico in a Russian boxing competition.
William was an accomplished athlete, participating in the Pan American Track and Field Master Championships, the Puerto Rican Masters, the Florida State Master Championships and other various organizations. He earned a total of 30 plus Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in pole vaulting, javelin throw, discus throw, weight lifting, high jump and long jump.

William is survived by his wife Emma Mercedes Sierra de Arana, his daughters Wilma Calderon, Yvonne Lazaroff, Lucy Serrano; his sons William Arana, Jr., George Arana; his brother Luis Arana, III; and many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents, a son, Randy William Arana, and a daughter, Sylvia Colon.

William’s celebration of life will be at Newcomer Funeral Home - East Orlando Chapel 895 South Goldenrod Rd. Orlando, FL 32822 on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 1 pm. Friends and family may gather before the service from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm.

A special thank you to Florida Hospital Home Care staff and Hospice of The Comforter for their loving care and support during his final days at home.

Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.
