Randy Thomas Brakeall, 66, of Orlando, FL, went to be with the Lord on, April 12, 2019. If Randy had his way, this would be the end of his Obituary. However, his middle daughter is writing this, and she always got her way with him, and this is no different.
Randy was born on, May 31, 1952 to the late Clerence W. Brakeall and Audie Lee Brakeall in Urbana, Ohio. One of 14 children, can we just take a moment to bless his momma… ok, back to the man of the hour. One of 14 children, Randy grew up in Ohio, while also spending a lot of time in Florida and traveling the country. He always had many stories to tell of his “completely legal” shenanigans he and his siblings had growing up. With 13 siblings, I’m sure there are triple that we never heard about. -Again, bless his Mother.
Randy had 6 children; Randy Thomas Brakeall Jr., Patty Ann Nance, Melissa Marie Cox, Michael Neil Cole, Audie Lee Danielle Breakall, and Thomas Dennis CW Brakeall. He had the honor to love 11 Grandchildren and 5 8/9 Great Grandchildren. While he asked to be called “Randy” he was known as, Grandpa, Papaw, and Pappy. -Us kids weren’t having it any other way.
Randy met the love of his life, Mary Jane Steele, in 1989 while living next door to her on the same street they would share a home on for 30 years. While she wanted nothing to do with him, or any other man for that matter, young Melissa had her own plans. Being a young child, she played the “tell Mommy one thing and your future Dad the same, without telling them it was actually setting them up”. Yep, at 11 years old, she decided Randy was going to be her Dad and she wasn’t taking no for an answer. They shared almost 29 years married to the love of their lives, a blessing a lot of us don’t see nowadays.
-I’d like to think it was a match made in Heaven, I am a little bias though.
Randy LOVED being outside, he would spend several hours a day on the porch looking at the skies during the day and the stars at night. His enjoyment of the outdoors is why he enjoyed his many jobs in construction and road construction. Growing up, I would remember him always coming home in a good mood from work, I don’t remember him every saying he had a bad day. He did come home with stories of the guys from his team. Sometimes my eyes would pop out of my head with how he would talk to them. I would always tell him to be nice or use a filter. But if you knew Randy, you know that would never happen. He spoke it as he saw it and felt it. He didn’t care if it offended you, if you could learn something from what he had to say. I was always afraid this offended people and felt very defensive of him. But that wasn’t the case, no, people LOVED him for being so honest and open. They appreciated that he had the guts to tell the truth and stand up for anyone that was being wronged. Randy also had a love affair that proved very beneficial to him and Mary… Lotto! Many times, people wouldn’t know what to buy him as a gift, Lotto was the perfect gift. When one of his kids sent something, they thought would be useful, he didn’t USE it… at all. He would keep it in the box or on a shelf. I think a work bench is still in the box from 6+ years ago. I guess I’ll take it home at this point.
All that was nothing compared to time with his family. From Church service and Sunday lunch, to family barbecues, spending time in Naples, and hanging out at the house. Randy was at his happiest surrounded by his family.
He would not want you to cry for him, he lived a wonderful life and had a saying, “The Good Lord brought me in this world, and He’ll be with me when I leave it”. He would want to you love your family harder, cherish the time you have on earth, and spend time outside appreciating the wonderful gift of life God has given us.
