Sylvia Delores Robinson was born October 10, 1929 and passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 19, 2019. Sylvia grew up in Kingston, Jamaica with her parents Simon and Sylvia Browne. In her early adult years, she worked as a telegraph operator at the post office. In later years, she worked as a secretary for New York Life Insurance.
Sylvia married the love of her life, Ancel G. Robinson in 1952. The couple spent 17 years in Jamaica before moving to Brooklyn, NY in 1969 and settling in Roosevelt, NY in the early 1970’s. Together, they raised five children. Those five children were Sylvia’s absolute pride and joy and heart was torn apart in 1972 when her oldest daughter, Charmaine, regrettably passed away.
Sylvia was a quiet but strong spirit that was the centerpiece of our family. She loved going to church and singing hymns— she had a beautiful voice. She enjoyed old jazz music (especially jazz artists Nancy Wilson and Ella Fitzgerald), and she loved to dress up and entertain her family and friends. In her spare time, she also enjoyed shopping, sewing, ceramics, cooking and baking.
Sylvia was above all passionate and proud of all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sylvia was the beloved wife of Ancel Robinson, devoted mother of Tony (Diane) Robinson, the late Charmaine Robinson*, Trevor Robinson, Richard (Lee) Robinson and Carol Clarke. She was also the attentive grandmother of 13 grandchildren— Jerry, Charmaine, Jenny*, Carl, Dahlia, Natasha, Lisa, Serena, Brandon, Daneene, Matthew, Nathan and Jordan and great-grandmother of 26 great-grandchildren. Sylvia was also very special to her nephew Robert Wood.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her daughter Charmaine and her granddaughter, Jenny. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
The family expresses appreciation to the staff at AdventHealth Care Center Apopka and the Vitas Hospice as well as the many physicians who participated in Sylvia’s care over the past few years. We would also like to thank Newcomer Funeral Home as well as the members and staff of the Church of the Holy Family.
Sylvia will forever be remembered for her beautiful smile, gentle eyes, caring heart, loving embrace and unconditional love. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate her life and find comfort that she is in Heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
