ORLANDO – Bruce C. Smith, 72 of Orlando, passed away unexpectedly following complications from Multiple Myeloma and pneumonia on Thursday, January 16, 2020.

Born on November 16, 1947 in Manchester, NH, he was the middle of three sons of the late Virgil Clay and Louanna Graziella (Forest) Smith.

Bruce received his AA degree from New England Technical Institute in Concord, NH and was a graduate of University of New Hampshire in 1973 where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Moving to Florida following graduation he worked in the Aerospace industry for Martin-Marietta. He relocated for a time to Maryland where he worked for Vitro Labs in Silver Spring, Md. He later returned to Orlando where he worked for Insystec in Winter Park and NCR in Lake Mary, FL. He went to Rollins College at night and received a Master’s Degree in Business Management. Before retiring he was employed for over 20 years at Northrop Grumman in Apopka, FL.

Bruce had a very analytical mind; some would even say he had a photographic memory. He enjoyed tinkering with things, fixing things and if he couldn’t fix it by “normal” standards he would find his own way to make it work. A modern-day MacGyver! He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Bruce is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Elaine (Smith) Smith of Orlando, sons, Eric M. Smith of Orlando, Christopher S. Smith and wife Tera of Orlando, daughter-in-law Brandie Sawyer; grandchildren, Sienna Smith and Tyler Quick; brothers, Wayne Smith (Carol) of Newtown, CT and Leonard Smith (Olga) of Clarksburg, MD, as well as nieces Kristen Smith of Clarksburg, MD, Erin Bradbury of Barrington, NH, Karin Gillespie, Charlotte, NC, Heather Kiser, Charlotte NC, nephew Shawn Smith, Barrington, NH, and several great nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Tuesday, January 21, 2020 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm with Celebration of Life starting at 4:30 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - East Orlando Chapel, 895 S. Goldenrod Rd, Orlando, FL 32822.
