Sonia was born on May 9, 1933 in Santiago, Oriente, Cuba, daughter to late parents Manuel Marcial Gutierrez Gonzalez and Felicita Matos Rondon. On September 30, 1956, she married Raul del Campo, to whom she was married to for 62 years until his passing in 2018. Together they emigrated to the United States and settled in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1958. Sonia went to work for Remington shavers, and later for Dayron Corporation in Orlando as a fuse manufacturer after moving to Orlando in August 1973. She was an avid gardener and had a passion for cooking. Sonia would always say, “My food tastes so good because it was made with love.” Her true passion was her family. Sonia loved spending time with them, and could never see them enough.
Sonia is survived by her son, George del Campo and his wife, Kim, of Orlando; daughter, Nancy Mayhew and her husband, Shannon, of Orlando; two sisters, Zoila Robles of Orlando, and Virginia Pecunia and her husband, Frank, of Orlando; five grandchildren, Benjamin del Campo, Joshua del Campo, Jacob del Campo, Matthew Shane Mayhew, and Jason Michael Mayhew; and three great-grandchildren, Liam Arthur del Campo, Emma Rose del Campo, and Charlotte Marie del Campo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 9:00 am St. James Cathedral, 215 N. Orange Ave, Orlando with Fr. Miguel Gonzalez officiating.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 7, 2020 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - East Orlando Chapel, 895 S. Goldenrod Rd, Orlando.
Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Orlando.
