Alice A. (Gebert) Eib, 88, passed away September 18, 2020 at Lake Mary Health and Rehabilitation Center (Lake Mary, FL.).

Born in Carbondale, PA., she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Gerrity) Gebert. Raised in Carbondale, PA., Alice attended St. Rose High School. Following graduation from high school, Alice travelled to New York City to attend Nursing School at Kings County Hospital (New York). She received her R.N. at Kings County Hospital and began her career in nursing. While in New York, Alice met her husband-to-be, Louis, who was a New York City Policeman. They married in 1956 and raised three children (Cynthia, Robert and David) on Staten Island. Louis died in 1991. After 20 years in Nursing, Alice received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Special Education. She taught elementary education for several years at St. Patrick Catholic School in Staten Island and then taught in special education for the NYC Board of Education. In the 1990’s Alice was employed by the American Red Cross. She was able to utilize her nursing and teaching skills with the Red Cross. Alice enjoyed outdoor sports especially volleyball and tennis. She was an accomplished toastmaster achieving the level of Distinguished Toastmaster and served as the President of a local Toastmasters group on Staten Island. During her time in Toastmaster, she began a toastmaster group at a prison center. She was also known to sing and dance in plays and skits at St. Christopher Church, the family’s parish on Staten Island.

Alice is survived by her children, Cynthia Wachob of Winter Park, FL., Robert Eib and his wife, Dianne, of East Kingston, NH. and David Eib of Staten Island, NY.; five grandchildren, Renee (Wachob) Irizarry and her husband Christopher of Winter Park, Suzanne (Wachob) Sherrill and her husband Daniel of Johns Creek, GA., Jonathan Wachob of Winter Park; Meredith Eib of Boston, MA. and Alex Eib of Pace, FL.; and three great grandchildren, Asia, Aiden and Theodore. She was predeceased by her siblings, James Gebert, John Gebert, Mary (Gebert) Schaaf and Donald Gebert.

A private viewing will be held Friday morning, September 25th at Newcomer Funeral Home (Winter Park Chapel), Howell Branch Rd., Winter Park. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Howell Branch Rd., Winter Park on Friday, September 25th at 2:00 PM. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society at https://www.alz.org
