Herbert McKinney, 91, of Belle Isle, FL passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021. He was born March 1, 1930 in Logan, WVA to the late James Arthur and Harriett Osborne McKinney.

After graduating Logan high school, Herb enlisted in the Marine Corp. He served four years and achieved the rank of Staff Sargent. He attended Temple University in Philadelphia and graduated with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. Herb was hired at Martin Marietta, and retired after 40 years of service. He also graduated from Rollins College with a bachelor's degree in business.

Herb designed the antenna system for the Apollo command module while at Martin. He worked on many top-secret projects. He was a member of the Masons for over 50 years and worked with the youth.

He is survived by a son, Herbert (Eloise); stepson, Charles (Bonny) Turner of Jamestown, NY; one granddaughter, Kristyna (Zack) Phillips of Jacksonville, Fl. Also Survived by three great grandchildren, Logan, Payton, and Tucker; Two step- grandchildren, Steve Dillon, Melissa (Tom) Smith; one step- great granddaughter, Cecilia Dillon, and one step great, great grandson, Aiden. He is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Katherine McKinney.

Graveside services will be held Friday, April 9, 2021 at 2:30 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Gotha, Fl. With Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, contributions May be made to toys-for-tots or St. Jude's hospital.

Masks and social distancing will be observed.
