The son of John and Marie Langdon, he was born and raised in Omaha NE, graduated Cathedral High School, Creighton University BS ’63 and Creighton University Medical School ‘67. John did his medical internship in Chicago at Northwestern University, served in the USAF in Bermuda and completed his Internal Medicine residency at St. Joseph’s hospital in Denver CO.
He was in private practice in Glenwood Springs CO and Sioux Falls, SD. In 1985, John and his family moved to Winter Park FL and he served as Medical Director at the University of Central Florida for 10 years. As a member of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Physicians (FACP) since 1985 and a fellow since 1998, he advocated for excellence in medical care, education and research. As governor of FAPC in 2016-17, he helped the Florida Chapter stay focused on the initiative to raise the rates of patient vaccinations in practices, systems and training programs around the state. He was the 2019 recipient of the ACP Laureate/Chapter Award.
John practiced the Catholic faith throughout his life, for 35 years as a member of the St. Margaret Mary Church in Winter Park. He was involved in social justice issues and medical missions in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia and their children, Meg Heine (Greg), Ryan (Patrice) and Matthew (Rachel) and grandchildren: Courtney, Taylor, Damian, Ciara, John, Michael, David, four great-grandchildren, and his brother Gerald J. Langdon, M.D..
As learner, mentor, healthcare advocate, adventurer and visionary, John lived a full life until the moment he died.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 526 N Park Ave, Winter Park, FL 32789. The funeral mass will begin at 12:00 PM.
