It is with great sadness that our beloved David W. Fowkes has passed away on July 14, 2021. David was a long-time resident of Winter Park, Florida-since 1975 and was born to Guy and Ethel Fowkes in California, Pennsylvania on July 31, 1933.
David was a hero to our nation in serving in the USMC for nearly 23 years. He fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and earned many honors and awards including two purple hearts. He obtained every rank from Private to Captain before retiring in 1974. He then joined the Orange County Comptroller Office for nearly 20 years as an Auditor and in Fleet Management. David was a parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church since 1975. He was also active with the First Marine Division of Central Florida Chapter.
David’s favorite hobbies were fishing and golfing. As a young man he played in high school football and baseball. He enjoyed all sports and was a season ticket holder for many years for our own UCF Knights football program. He was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan too.
He had an awesome sense of humor, always telling the best jokes no matter where he was. At every family dinner or celebration, he would deliver one of his jokes right after his wife finished saying Grace. We will miss his jokes and stories that he would tell us often.
More than loving fishing, golfing and telling his jokes, he loved his family. He adored his wife, Rose Fowkes. He was an amazing father to his children and the best Pap-Pap to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. David had a big heart for children. He would see kids at the grocery store or even on TV commercials and it would make him smile. His favorite thing to do was to find candy behind his children and grandchildren's ears. It is a special memory that all his grandchildren have.
David was predeceased by his infant son, David Michael Fowkes, his parents, Guy L Fowkes and Ethel Fowkes, his infant brother Guy Fowkes and sisters Doris Tentler and Myrna Setticase. David is survived by his wife Rose Fowkes of 66 years of marriage, his children Charlene Terilli, Patricia “Patti” Fowkes, Miriam “Mimi” Fowkes and Guy Fowkes (Jeff Marcum spouse), his grandchildren Stacey Terilli, Alicia Purdum (Chris spouse), Sara Terilli, David Emrich and Madeline Emrich and his great grandchildren Ariana Smith, Caleb Powers, Brooke Purdum and Zyana Terilli.
