Michael John Benzer
1986 - 2022

Michael John Benzer II, age 35, of Altamonte Springs, Florida, passed away on January 2, 2022. He was hospitalized for several weeks and left us much too young on Sunday morning. Michael "Mike" was born in Orlando, Florida on December 30, 1986 to Mike and Gay Benzer. He was formerly married to Danielle, the mother of their son, Sawyer Hyde Benzer.

Michael spent 10+ years in the hospitality industry and the past years as a sales representative with Louis Wohl & Sons, Inc. He was funny, engaging, knowledgeable and he enjoyed the opportunities to connect with many customers, colleagues and friends.

From a young age, Michael was a gifted athlete, playing soccer at a competitive level gave him the experience of playing in Sweden with his soccer buddies. As a freshman at Lyman High School, he kicked his first field goals on the practice field. Varsity Coach Caughill, called "Mama Benzer"; saying this kid can really kick! Michael went on to kick the winning Lyman football team to a district championship. The kid kicking 50+yard field goals was noticed and quickly recruited as the first scholarship kicker at USF. There were highs and lows playing at the college level before Michael determined his future was not going to be in the NFL. Football, the Miami Dolphins and all sports remained a part of his daily routine along with his love of cooking.

Becoming and being Sawyer's daddy was the most important thing to Michael. Love and pride for his son brought him enormous joy. He dreamed of being on the playing field with Sawyer and being alongside of him supporting what will ultimately become Sawyer's passions. He was comforted knowing Danielle and family will love and care for his Little Man as he watches over him.

In addition to his amazing son, Sawyer; Michael is survived by his loving parents, Mike and Gay, his Meemaw, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins and a loving family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 335 E. State Rd. 434, Longwood, on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Mike’s son’s college fund. He was so proud to be a father and always strived to provide Sawyer with everything for his future. Thank you. Sawyer's College Fund

Mike, you will always be in our hearts and Sawyer will grow up knowing how much you loved him and how much you were loved.
