Dr. Alejandro (Alex) López Deyne, age 87, of Winter Park, Florida, passed away in peace surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. He was born on February 27, 1936, in Moca, Puerto Rico, and moved to Florida in 2008. Dr. López Deyne studied at the University of Puerto Rico at both the Rio Piedras and the Medical Sciences Campuses. He obtained a doctoral degree in Medical Sociology from Ohio State University and continued postgraduate studies at The American University in Washington, DC. He was an expert in mental health, addiction, sexuality, and medical sociology.

Alex is survived by his wife, Dr. Edna M. Rodríguez, along with their daughter Ednita; his former wife, Priscilla Ferrer, along with their three children and their spouses, Juan and Lilybeth, Jose and Elizabeth, Yadi and Yaisiel; seven grandchildren, André, Daniel, Matteo, Sophia, Bella, Zoé, and Xavier; two sisters, Aida and Rita; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan López Feliciano and Bonifacia Deynes Acevedo, and his brothers, Enrique and Miguel.

His favorite biblical verse, “Even before I formed you in the womb, I have known you; even before you were born, I had set you apart, and appointed you a prophet to the nations!” (Jer. 1, 5), reflects his passion and commitment to life. He viewed every person as a unique and irreplaceable child of God.

El 7 de marzo de 2023, Dr. Alejandro (Alex) López Deyne, de 87 años de edad y residente de Winter Park, Florida, falleció en paz rodeado de sus seres queridos. Dr. López Deyne nació el 27 de febrero de 1936 en Moca, Puerto Rico y se mudó a Florida en el 2008. Estudió en la Universidad de Puerto Rico en los Recintos de Río Piedras y Ciencias Médicas. Obtuvo un doctorado en Sociología Médica de Ohio State University y continuó sus estudios de postgrado en The American University en Washington, DC. Dr. López Deyne fue considerado un experto en salud mental, adicción, sexualidad y sociología médica.

A Alex le sobreviven su esposa, la Dra. Edna M. Rodríguez, junto con su hija Ednita; su ex esposa, Priscilla Ferrer, junto con sus tres hijos y sus cónyuges, Juan y Lilybeth, José y Elizabeth, Yadi y Yaisiel; siete nietos, André, Daniel, Matteo, Sophia, Bella, Zoé y Xavier; dos hermanas, Aida y Rita; y otros muchos familiares y amigos. Sus padres, Juan López Feliciano y Bonifacia Deynes Acevedo, fallecieron con anterioridad, al igual que sus hermanos, Enrique y Miguel.
Su verso favorito, “Antes de formarte en el seno de tu madre, ya te conocía; antes de que tú nacieras, yo te consagré, y te destiné a ser profeta de las naciones” (Jer. 1, 5), refleja su pasión y compromiso por la vida. Él veía a cada persona como hijo único e insustituible de Dios.
