Victor Sherman, age 69, of Orlando, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Orlando Regional Medical Center, Orlando, FL.

Victor was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 26, 1953 to Harold and Virginia Sherman.

He is predeceased by his mother and father, Harold and Virginia Rendelman, and sister, Joan Sherman.

Victor is survived by his wife, Lenora Hall Sherman; daughter Vickie Deguzman and son-in-love Kent Deguzman; son,Matthew Sherman; and his grandson Alex Deguzman.

His father‘s real name was Kryzyanski, and he owned a tile setting business. People had a difficult time with his name, so he changed the name to Sherman with no relation to anybody.

Victor’s father passed away when Vic was 12 years old. This made a difficult impact on Vic after this happened, but through this, he became familiar with The Salvation Army in Chicago, Illinois. His mother could not afford all the requirements in the Catholic Church and decided to take him to The Salvation Army, where he became a soldier.

Victor moved to Orlando, Florida in 1975 and started attending the Orlando Citadel. He would tell the story that the first time he came, he saw Lenora come through the band room door. He said he told the Lord that was the woman for him. Lenora resisted for a long time. Finally they started dating, and they were married on March 26, 1977. They were blessed with two children, Victoria Marrie Sherman DeGuzman and Matthew Jonathan Sherman. Victoria blessed them with a grandchild, Alex Jordan DeGuzman.

Victor loved his children so much that wherever we went, the children also had to be there. He felt it was very important as we never knew what the future held and he wanted to spend as much time as he could with his family.

Victor was an upholsterer by trade and worked for years at the ARC as an outside employee to reupholster the furniture. He then transferred to the William Booth Towers as a maintenance worker and retired as being a property manager position after working over 40 years of service combined.

Victor was a man who loved the Lord and served him. For many years, he volunteered faithfully to raise money by parking cars for the arena, and events to raise funds for the Corps. He raised an average of $70,000 per year along with the team that worked alongside him. He was out in the elements of the weather no matter what kind it was, and for years, several days a week, would stand collecting the funds with his little Pomeranian, Sugar Dog, under his arm. Many of the people that came fell in love with that dog and actually brought her gifts and treats! This brought pure joy to Vic!

Vic loved to go fishing! He has a big lake to fish from now in heaven! He loved camping, plants and animals, nature, and became quite a good cook in his later years. He became well known for his date bars! He loved baking and donating these for many of our Corps activities, especially the Owl Be Scrappin’ Crops. The ladies would rave over them, and made him feel so happy from all the attention! He also was well known for his pumpkin chili, and won second place last year at the chili cook off.

For many years, Victor was a part of an orchid club and had hundreds of beautiful orchid plants. He gave this up a few years ago after some bad storms made it very difficult to protect the plants. There are still a few left and he came in with one just this past week! He was good at volunteer Gardens. He had thrown out some sunflower seeds that sprouted, and he brought Lenora three beautiful ones in a vase the week before he passed.

Vic lived a simple life and was very much a homebody person. He just loved being at home with family. He loved staying out in the yard, especially watching his Koi pond.

He never met a stranger that he didn’t talk to. He loved to talk! He loved walking around the neighborhood, pushing a dog stroller with Precious, our current Pomeranian. He would stop and talk to everyone who were out and about.

Victor will be missed greatly by his family and friends, who he loved so!

Well done, Victor! Enjoy fishing with Jesus!
