Ellis Saxon Obituary

Ellis Was born on September 3, 1927 to Richard and Rona Belle Saxon. He passed on to our lord May 1, 2023 at Advent Health Hospice.

He was number eight of ten children. He was born in Summerville Georgia. Joined the US Navy in 1945. He arrived in the Pacific Theatre and was assigned to LST 813. He spent most of his tour part of the effort to sweep up the thousands of sea mines placed around the Japanese home islands. He returned to the United States aboard LST 813 and was honorably discharged. He took accounting classes and went to work for the Atlantic Ice Company in Orlando. He attended First Baptist Church Orlando. There he met and fell in love with Edla Swaidmark who was home from college for the summer. In the fall he flew to Wheaton College to ask her to marry him. They were married July 28th, 1950. The marriage prospered 73 years until her passing. Early in their marriage his work kept them moving around. They lived in Charlotte NC, Atlanta Ga where his daughter was born. Later in New Orleans his son was born. He eventually rose to own and operate, successfully, his own Business’s in Furniture and Floorcoverings. He moved back to Orlando in the late 60’s. He was a private pilot who owned and flew his aircraft. Throughout his life he was a committed Christian who attended church wherever he lived. He was choir member, Deacon and soundman. He also was on finance and business committees at several churches. In 1983 he and Edla saw a TV program attempting to place a teen boy in a stable home. They fostered and eventually adopted him and helped him become a fine young man, who grew to have a family of his own. Ellis’s greatest joy was the support and nurturing he provided for his family and churches.

He was predeceased by his wife and one grandson. He is survived by three children, 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Private services will be held by the family.

Arrangements by Newcomer, Cremations & Funerals (Winter Park Chapel).
