In Loving Memory of Aida C. Funtila April 8, 1938 – May 8, 2026
Aida C. Funtila, born on April 8, 1938, in Manila, lived a life filled with laughter, kindness, and love for family, friends, students, and just about anyone lucky enough to know her. She was the seventh of twelve children, six boys and six girls, and was the last surviving sibling of her remarkable family.
Aida was married to her beloved husband, Val Funtila, and together they built a beautiful family with their four children: Bernadette, Glenn, Ariel, and Gerald. She was a proud grandmother to Kyle, Leanza, and Nelson, who brought endless joy to her life.
A lifelong educator, Aida dedicated herself to teaching and caring for children. From teaching physical education to high school students to serving as an assistant teacher at Downey Christian School, she found true happiness in helping young people grow and thrive. Her warmth, patience, and playful spirit made her unforgettable to generations of students.
Aida loved staying active and could often be found walking or swimming. She adored the color pink and all things feminine and cheerful, a perfect reflection of her bright personality. She was almost always smiling, giggling, and bringing joy to those around her. And if there was shrimp at the table, everyone knew Aida was especially happy.
She is survived by her daughter Bernadette, son-in-law Scott, and her cherished grandchildren Kyle, Leanza, and Nelson, along with many loving relatives and friends who will deeply miss her laughter, grace, and loving heart.
Aida’s life was a beautiful reminder to smile often, love deeply, wear pink proudly, and never pass up good shrimp.
