Anthony Gene Fairbairn, 87, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, at a memory care facility in Florida. A man of immense skill, determination, and a great sense of humor, Anthony divided his time between the home he proudly built with his family in Bradley, NY, and his residence in Mims, FL.
Born with a deep connection to the outdoors, Anthony’s early years were spent as a logger in Peekamoose, NY, during an era when horses were still used to haul timber. He went on to a distinguished 40-year career as an operating engineer and was a dedicated member of the Neversink Fire Department for over 50 years. Anthony was a true craftsman with an exceptional mechanical ability to build or repair anything he touched.
An avid outdoorsman, Anthony found his greatest joy in nature. Whether he was hunting, camping, hiking, or fishing in mountain streams and lakes, he was always in his element. In his later years, he especially loved shrimping from his pontoon boat in the Florida waters. He lived a full life, enjoying the best of both worlds—summers in the New York countryside and winters in the Florida sun.
He leaves behind a family who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his two sons, Ricky Fairbairn, and Gary Fairbairn and his wife, Gail; and the mother of his children, Marjorie Fairbairn. Anthony was a proud grandfather to Cutler Fairbairn (Jullina) and Devyn Pascuito (Carmen Jr.). He is also survived by his younger half-brother, Melvin Jr., and many nieces and nephews.
Anthony was preceded in death by his beloved partner of 30 years, Patricia McDermott, with whom he is now reunited. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Veda; his brothers and sisters, James, Joan, John, and Gail; and his half-siblings, Ed, Joan, and Harry (Butch).
In accordance with his wishes, Anthony has been cremated. There will be no formal funeral services. The family will gather privately at a later date to celebrate his life and his legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests performing an act of kindness in Anthony’s memory or making a donation to the Neversink Fire Department or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements by Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (Winter Park Chapel).
