Arlene Marie Ellsworth, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 14, 2025. Born on November 2, 1940, Arlene lived a life of service, kindness, and quiet strength—touching the lives of many with her selfless heart and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
The youngest of three children, Arlene grew up in Roxbury, Massachusetts, where she cared for her father following her parents’ divorce—a responsibility she took on with maturity and grace even as a young teen. She was a proud student at St. Patrick’s High School for Girls, where she was honored to crown the Blessed Mother during the parish’s May Procession, a significant distinction in mid-century Catholic Boston.
Arlene attended Boston Teachers College but ultimately set aside her studies to care for her family. A lifelong friendship with Paul, a childhood companion, blossomed into love, and the two married, building a home together in Everett, Massachusetts. Arlene worked in administration in the Prudential Building before stepping into her most cherished role: mother. With the arrival of her two daughters, she became a full-time parent and community volunteer— serving in the parents’ association, leading Girl Scout troops, and supporting the local drill team.
In the early 1980s, Arlene returned to school, earning an associate’s degree and beginning a new chapter with Mystic Valley Elder Services, continuing her lifelong commitment to caregiving. After Paul’s retirement, they relocated to Orlando, Florida, where Arlene stayed active, working in airport security at Orlando International Airport and later as a toll attendant for the Florida Department of Transportation.
Arlene often described herself as happy-go-lucky, and that’s exactly what she was—optimistic, light-hearted, and quick to laugh. Even in her final years, she remained a bright light, making friends wherever she went and offering warmth and wisdom to all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved daughters, Janice Davidson and Judith Ball; her cherished grandchildren, Connor, Helen, and Digit; and her great grandchildren, whose lives are a testament to her love and legacy.
Arlene will be remembered for her resilience, generosity, and deeply rooted faith. She lived her life in service to others, and the world is better for it.
