Barbara (Hansen) Kramer, age 74, earned her angel wings on Tuesday, July 15th, 2025. She kicked cancer's butt, but it would come back again with a vengeance. She is now free of pain and a cancer wrecked body.
Barbara grew up on Long Island, the daughter of Stella and Elith "Bud" Hansen. She dreamed of having a Camaro and traveling across Europe. Those would be crossed off her bucket list. Family vacations growing up made her want to call Florida home. The move came in 1988, giving her children the best possible life. A breast cancer diagnosis at the age of 40 would only test her limits. Not long after that she would become a single mom working two jobs. This would be something she would be very proud of. She loved her career as an executive assistant, but just when she began thinking of retiring she would face an ovarian cancer diagnosis. True to her fiercely independent spirit, she made it clear she was going to "drive the bus." Treatments were hard, but her Orlando Health care team would help her to maintain a vibrant life. Her family always meant everything to her.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Bob Kramer, her children, Loren Ball (Roy), Mike Gomes (Staci), Rob Gomes (April), and her special daughter, Wendy Papa.
Barbara is extremely grateful to her second family - Dr. Schimp, along with all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Orlando Health for the compassionate, devoted and excellent care she received.
A special thank you to the Arts in Medicine Program for the creative writing, art, yoga, and therapy that helped her on the hardest days.
Barbara wants her legacy to be making a difference in this world for those diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She remembers her first cancer diagnosis when her youngest was only eight years old. She spoke at events to raise awareness and was actively involved in fundraising. Her message always included - Gratitude.
