In Loving Memory of Carmen Borrero Cuevas Rivera ("Rosin")

October 13, 1936 – May 26, 2025

Carmen Borrero Cuevas Rivera, affectionately known as Rosin, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on May 26, 2025, in the comfort of her cherished home in Orlando, Florida. Born on October 13, 1936, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Carmen’s life was a radiant thread woven through generations — a tapestry of love, tradition, and luminous presence.

To all who knew her, Carmen was more than a mother, sister, aunt, or friend — she was a guide, a nurturer, and a soul whose kindness and deep intuition offered light in moments of joy and hardship alike. Her life overflowed with a generosity of spirit that inspired and uplifted those around her. She had an innate gift for making others feel seen, heard, and valued — a quiet but profound power that left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.

Carmen loved the art of connection. Her home was often filled with the sound of music, laughter, and heartfelt conversations. She treasured her Puerto Rican heritage — its folklore, music, rhythms, and traditions — and carried its essence wherever she lived, embodying a vibrant cultural bridge across time and place. She found joy in dancing, storytelling, nature, and the beauty of flowers, all of which reflected her appreciation for life’s delicate and colorful details.

A graduate of Rafael María Labra High School in Santurce, she later moved to New York City, where she worked for the Housing Authority. Eventually returning to Puerto Rico, Carmen continued her professional path in finance, retiring from the Departamento de Hacienda (Puerto Rico’s Treasury Department). In the years that followed, she settled in Orlando, Florida, where she lovingly volunteered with the Orange County Foster Grandparent Program. Her care for children and her commitment to community earned her recognition for her years of selfless service.

Carmen’s journey was marked by profound partnerships. She was married to Angel Borrero, the father of her two daughters, and later to her beloved José Rivera, with whom she shared deep companionship until his passing in November 2024. Throughout her life, she remained a pillar of love and strength for her family, offering guidance, comfort, and unwavering support to all who sought her wisdom.

She is survived by her daughters, Mayra Borrero and Maria de Lourdes Borrero; her brothers, Humberto Cuevas and Felix José Rivera; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and loved ones who were all touched by her enduring love.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Carlos Cuevas, Juan Enrique Rivera, Carlino "Papucho" Cuevas, and Pito Cuevas; and three sisters, Luisa Cuevas, Melba Cuevas, and Ana Rivera.

Carmen was the heart of her family — a beacon of wisdom, unity, and compassion. Her spirit continues to echo in the lives she shaped and the love she gave so freely.

Her life was beautiful. Her legacy is eternal.
