Carolyn Hirt Pickles was born March 5, 1939 at home in Osteen. She went to heaven on July 1, 2026 from that same home after a brief battle with ovarian cancer.
She married Richard on September 21, 1957. They were married for 63 years. They had the kind of love most couples only dream about. She and Richard travelled to many destinations; some of which were the Holy Land, Germany, and Costa Rica.
She worked for the University of Florida IFAS centers for 33 years. Carolyn was a remarkable cook, being famous for her pies and chicken and dumplings. She was an accomplished seamstress, making most of the clothes her children wore during their early years.
Carolyn had a strong faith in Jesus. She loved the old hymns. She was the oldest living member of First Baptist Church Osteen, where she played the piano for many years, served in the nursery with her babies, worked in the kitchen, and enjoyed the Sistahs ladies’ group. She fiercely loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her three daughters; Carol Ann (John) Butts, Barbara Smith, and Joy (Tim) Allen; 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; and her brother Larry Hirt, Sr.
In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting The Children's Ministry of First Baptist Church of Osteen in Carolyn's name.
