Charles Cleveland Dooley – May 2, 1939 – February 2, 2026
Charles Cleveland Dooley, born May 2, 1939, in Decatur, Georgia, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026.
Charles built his life through determination, ambition, and hard work. A real estate developer by profession, he dedicated his career to building subdivisions – communities that stood as lasting evidence of his vision and work ethic. He took pride in creating places where families could put down roots and build lives of their own.
In retirement, Charles found joy in the final community he developed: The Cove at Lake Mira. This special place reflected not only his professional talents, but his personal pride and love for building something meaningful. He also loved working with his hands, especially refinishing old furniture. Restoring worn wood pieces and giving them new life brought him deep satisfaction and peace.
Charles had a deep love for the mountains and treasured the quiet solitude of fishing alone – moments that allowed him reflection and calm. His home was always open to his family and grandchildren, a place filled with comfort, routine, and love. Some of the most cherished memories were the simplest ones: sitting beside him on the couch, watching the news, sharing fudge and peppermint patties, and just being together.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Susan Dooley; his three daughters, Miscindy Hughes, Tracy Dooley, and Kimberly Gelalia; his five grandchildren, Brittany Crowley, Brandon Hughes, Olivia Barreda, Sophie Gelalia, and Grant Gelalia; and his three great-grandchildren, Ethan Crowley, Mila Hughes, and Ezra Hughes.
His gentle laugh was comforting and familiar – a sound that made everyone feel at home.
We are comforted knowing that Charles has crossed from death to life and is now at peace – free, whole, and himself again, just as we remember him. Until we meet again, save us all a seat so we can continue writing our story together in heaven.
We love you, Dad. We love you, Papa.
