Charlie Mae was born in Savannah, GA; however, she spent the better part of her life as a NY'r before eventually finding her home in Orlando, Florida, which she loved! She was a Nurse Practioner at The Martin Luther King, Jr. clinic in the south Bronx. She received her degrees: Associate and Bachelorette from Beaufort Technical College in Beaufort, SC. She was married to Mr Eugene Franklin Smith, Sr.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Eugene Franklin Smith Sr.; son, Mr. Mark Emanuel Smith; and grandson, Mr. Eugene Franklin Smith , III. She is survived by son, Eugene Franklin Smith Jr.; daughters, Victoria C Smith-King, Mazurah M Smith-Ransaw (George), and Lynette H Smith; grandchildren, Jonathan Dobey, Nicole Dobey, Aja Jordan, Preston Jordan, Anthony Garrett (Simon), Taryn Jordan, and Courte'nay Smith; and great grandsons, Jayson and Tajir.
