Cheryl was born on January 30, 1949, in Covington, Kentucky, to Mary Elizabeth and Russell Buckler. Raised in a loving and close-knit family with her siblings Sandy and Randy, Cheryl learned early on the value of family, faith, and loyalty.
After attending Elsmere Elementary School and Lloyd Memorial High School, Cheryl eventually moved to Orlando, Florida, where she built a life filled with love, laughter, and meaningful work. She dedicated 51 years of service to the pharmacy department at AdventHealth East Orlando, formerly known as Orlando General Hospital and later as Florida Hospital East. She was the Lead Pharmacy Buyer for many years, serving with dedication and living out the organization’s service standards of love me, keep me safe, make it easy, and own it. Cheryl retired from AdventHealth on January 1st, 2026, her 52nd year, and had the joy of being recognized and celebrated as one of the longest serving team members in AdventHealth at the 2025 Service Awards Banquet.
Above all else, Cheryl’s heart belonged to her children, Terrin and Jerry. They were her greatest accomplishments and the center of her world. She especially shared an extraordinary bond with her daughter Terrin and learned sign language to connect with her. Cheryl devoted her life to caring for Terrin with patience, strength, and unconditional love.
After her children was her pharmacy family (as she called us). She was like a mother hen in the department, making sure that the team always had the needed medications and supplies to care for patients. She mentored and trained many, as every new pharmacy team member spent a day or two with Cheryl during their orientation. She was also in charge of pharmacy technician students and volunteers, their schedule, and any needed documentation. She formed strong and lasting relationships with the whole pharmacy team, especially the pharmacy technicians; and had a best friend in the pharmacy (Mimi, who shared the same birth month as Cheryl).
Cheryl loved Jesus deeply, and her faith guided her life. She had a generous spirit — once saying that if she ever won a million dollars, she would give 10% to the church and use the rest to help people in need. She did not win a million dollars, but she still gave generously to the church and bought gifts for team members during their birthdays and at Christmas. That was Cheryl — always thinking of others. She once took care of her neighbor who did not have any close relatives or friends around, often checking on her severally, bringing her to the hospital and caring for her until she passed away, the same way she cared for her mother until the very end.
She had a fun and spirited personality. She loved sports and cheered faithfully for the Dallas Cowboys, Orlando Magic, Cincinnati Reds, and Dale Earnhardt’s NASCAR team. She enjoyed music and her favorite meal was fried chicken. In the time of her illness, that favorite meal briefly changed to donut and orange soda.
Cheryl adored her dogs and cats, who brought her comfort and companionship. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life — spending time with her daughter Terrin and her brother Randy and sharing stories from listening to her favorite TV evangelist. She also told stories of hospital operations and constructions of days gone by. She especially enjoyed Randy’s cooking, who always found a way to make healthy versions of Cheryl’s favorite foods.
Cheryl’s life reflected love, faith, loyalty, dedication, and generosity. Though she will be deeply missed, her warmth and spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
