Cheryl Ann Welch, born on February 19, 1955, in Orlando, Florida, passed away on November 1, 2025, in St. Cloud, Florida. Cheryl was a cherished member of her family and community, leaving an indelible mark through her personality and contributions.
Cheryl dedicated over 20 years of her career to the Orange County Public Schools, where she held multiple positions, ultimately serving in the nutritional department from which she retired. Her commitment to education and the well-being of children reflected her compassionate nature and dedication to service.
A proud graduate of Colonial High School, Class of 1973, Cheryl was known for her fun-loving spirit and free-spirited personality. She had her own unique timetable, never one to rush, and was affectionately known as Myrtle the Turtle among her friends and family. She enjoyed life at her own pace and embraced every moment with joy.
Cheryl had a deep love for nature, especially the beach and her beautiful flower beds, where her stunning birds of paradise flourished. Her love for dancing, particularly to country music, brought her immense joy in her younger years. Known for always being down for a good time, she created many fond memories for those around her.
Cheryl's proudest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren, who she adored deeply. She is survived by her two daughters, Jacqueline Ann Welch and her husband, Elvis Purnell, and Beverly June Welch. Her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren: Angelice Elizabeth Purnell, Alyza Belen Purnell, Angelo Elvis Purnell, Elias Douglas Welch, Lorenzo Bryce Welch, Alonzo Pierce Welch, and Cataleya Sariah Jones. Additionally, Cheryl was a loving great-grandmother to Jaxon Januel Espinal-Purnell. She is also survived by her brother, Roger Bennett and her longtime companion of 25 years, John McDaniel.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Milton and Ollie Eunice (Russell) Bennett, her husband, Douglas Paul Welch, and her brother, Wayne Bennett.
A memorial gathering will be held to celebrate Cheryl’s life on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - East Orlando Chapel, 895 S. Goldenrod Rd, Orlando, FL 32822. Friends and family are invited to come together to honor the memory and share their memories of a remarkable woman whose love and spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Private graveside services will take place at Glen Haven Memorial Park, Winter Park, FL.
