Claudette Dawn Johnson-McCatty, affectionately known as “Miss D,” passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, at the age of 73, surrounded by her devoted family after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma.
Born on May 16, 1952, in Jamaica, Claudette was the cherished daughter of Ernest Wellesley Johnson and Mildred Rema Johnson, who preceded her in death. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1968 and was a lifelong learner who earned her Master’s Degree while advancing a distinguished career in nursing, first providing compassionate bedside care and later specializing in infection prevention and control. Her dedication, knowledge, leadership skills and unwavering integrity earned the respect and admiration of colleagues, patients, and friends alike.
In 2002, Claudette relocated to Florida, where she served as Senior Manager of Infection Prevention and Control at Advent Health. She was deeply respected and loved by her colleagues for her leadership, professionalism, and generosity of spirit.
Claudette’s remarkable strength of character and devotion to her family, especially her daughter Adrianna (fiancé Kaitlyn) and her husband Roy, were the hallmarks of her life. She is also survived by her husband of 26 years, Roy McCatty; stepchildren Roy Junior (Paulina), Francine, and Dennis (Anh); and her grandchildren Trinity, Jasmine, Maxwell, Sebastian, Justin, Theo, and Hugo. She remained close to her siblings Wellesley (Vicky), Errol (Vivette), Janet (Denis), Janice (David), and Esther, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A private memorial was held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations & Funeral Home. Claudette will be returning home to Toronto, Canada, where a funeral service will take place.
The Celebration of Life will take place on Monday, September 29th, 2025 at St. Timothy's Anglican Church, the address is 4125 Sheppard Ave, E Scarborough Ontario M1S 1T1 Canada - Visitation @ 10:00am and service to follow at 11:00am.
Claudette’s journey from Jamaica to Canada and finally to Florida was marked by resilience, dedication, lifelong learning, and love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
