Dale W. Carpenter was born July 21, 1921 to Voris & Mary Hazel Burcham Carpenter in Lyons, IN. He attended school at the Lyons Township School then entered Indiana University for one year before being drafted into the Army Air Corps at Evansville, IN. He was sent to Herbert Smart Airport in Macon, GA then to Lakeland, FL where he prepared for overseas shipment. Dale spent the next 1 ½ years in the China, Burma, India (CBI) theatre stationed in the Assam Valley in Northeast India. He was discharged from the Army on February 14, 1946.
Dale met Mary Turnbow at church in 1950. They were married March 25, 1951. After attending Indiana Business College, Dale was employed by The Milwaukee Road at its Indianapolis office. He was in the Sales Department which took him to several cities and states. In 1982, he retired from the railroad after thirty-four years of service. Dale took one summer off before going back to work full time selling menswear at JC Penney in Schaumburg, IL then transferred to Madison, TN when he and Mary moved to Hendersonville, TN to be near their three children who were attending David Lipscomb University.
Dale and Mary had three children. Jayson Dale and Carol Anne were born in Indianapolis and Ken David was born in Dallas, TX. They had 6 grandchildren, 4 boys and 2 girls. John Mark Bowden in Columbus, GA, Hannah Harriet Nixon (Bowden) in Aberdeen, NC, Jayson Michael Bowden in Okinawa, Japan were all born to Carol (Carpenter) and Michael Bowden. David Alexander and Michael Ryan Carpenter in Orlando, FL were born to Ken and Maria Carpenter. Natasha Mary Carpenter also in Orlando was born to Jay and Fior Carpenter. They also had two great grandchildren Timothy James Nixon and Heath Nixon born to Tim and Hanna Nixon.
Dale was baptized at an early age (12 years) and has been a faithful Christian since that time. While living in the Chicago area he was a Deacon at the Des Plaines Church of Christ and also at the Cardinal Drive Church of Christ. When he and Mary moved to Tennessee, they were members of the Madison Church of Christ where Dale served as a Deacon for 18 years. They have been members of the Concord Street Church of Christ since moving to Orlando, FL in 2002.
Dale is predeceased by his parents and three sisters, Wilma Abraham, Harriet Westfall, and Joanna Clouse. He is survived by his brother David Carpenter and his wife Charlene of Austin, TX and by his three children, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
