David M. Azzarito

When David would see someone he hadn't seen in a while, he would say "I haven't seen you since Superman died."

Sadly on July 15th, 2026, our Superman passed away peacefully surrounded by family.

Born in Utica, New York on January 16, 1943, David moved as a teenager to Miami, FL. It was there he met his wife of 58 years, Phyllis. They were married on June 9, 1963, and their first child Kimberly Ann was born nine months later. Two more wonderful children, Dawn Michelle and David Michael Jr were born within their first decade of marriage.

David worked for the Nabisco section of Kraft Heinz foods for thirty years before retiring and working for Publix part time. Throughout his adult life, David was involved with youth baseball and softball. It was at Perrine Khoury League in Cutler Ridge that he served as President, Vice President, and Commissioner of Baseball and Softball for over 15 years as well as coaching youth as early as 1961 there. He then fell in love with umpiring and committed another 22 years officiating high school, adult and PKL games. He committed 48 years to PKL, his second home as Phyllis would call it. During that time David was chosen to accompany several baseball teams to Cooperstown, NY to umpire in summer youth tournaments at the Baseball Hall of Fame.

In 2009, David and Phyllis moved from Miami to central Florida to be closer to family. He continued to work part-time for Publix and umpiring until he officially retired. Then enjoying being a spectator to grandchildren and great-grand children's games.

He is predeceased by his parents, John and Eva, brother Jack and love of his life, his wife Phyllis.He took great care of Phyllis during her time of need before she passed in 2022.

David would always tell you how proud he was of his 18 descendents. He loved his children, Kimberly (Cleve) Waldrop, Dawn Azzarito, and David (Dawn) Azzarito Jr.He was blessed with 7 grandchildren, Heather (Nate) Rosenberger, Rachel (Craig) Slater, Christopher Newton, Samantha O'Born. Charlie, Amanda and Dylan Azzarito. And 8 great-grandchildren, (Emma Newton, Haley Rosenberger, Hope Clemens, Evan Rosenberger, Addison Slater, Victoria Slater, James Newton and Raelynn King). Every Christmas, David would dress up as Santa Claus to celebrate the holiday with his family and for community events. He has also played Spider-Man, an Elephant and Elvis for birthdays and special events.

He is also survived by his twin brother Donald Azzarito of South Carolina, his sister, Tina Morris of Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, watch a baseball game (Marlins were his favorite), Gunsmoke or the Hallmark Channel with your favorite person.
