David Odell O'Neal

David Odell O'Neal, born February 5, 1941, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026. His 85 years were marked by steadfast dedication to family, country, and community, leaving a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.

David’s life was one of distinguished service and honor. He devoted 22 years to the United States Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. As an Aviation Electronic Technician, David’s technical skill and leadership were widely recognized and celebrated among his peers and subordinates alike. His service included deployments during the Vietnam War, for which he was awarded numerous commendations and medals, such as the Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Award, Navy Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Armed Forces Expedition Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. As a Vietnam Veteran, David’s patriotism was unwavering, and his commitment to duty and country was an inspiration to all.

David’s dedication extended far beyond the military. He was a lifelong member of several cherished organizations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and The Eagle Scouts. These memberships reflected his values of camaraderie, mentorship, and continuous service to others, even in retirement.

Known for his sharp wit and memorable sarcasm, David brought humor and lightness into every room. His sense of humor established instant connections with others, and his playful banter etched fond memories in the hearts of friends and family. Alongside his sense of humor, David was widely recognized as someone who was always willing to help others. Whether through formal organization or small, everyday acts of kindness, he made a positive difference in countless lives.

David had a multitude of interests that kept his days full and his spirits high. He was an avid bowler, a dedicated Scout supporter, loved boating and fishing, and enthusiastically embraced new technology, earning himself the affectionate reputation of “computer geek.” These passions were shared generously with his family and friends, enriching their lives as much as his own.

David took great pride in everything he did. This quiet determination, whether at work, in service, or at play, made him someone others could rely upon and admire. His integrity and sense of responsibility were unwavering, serving as a beacon of guidance for those who looked up to him.

He is survived by a loving family who will continue to honor his memory: his life companion Betty Fisher; his sons Daniel, Kenneth, and James; his daughter Anna Alsop; his brothers Fred O’Neal and Lloyd O’Neal; and his sister Clarinda Barnett; his many friends and family members, including grandchildren and great grandchildren. David’s legacy is also carried on by the countless friends and community members shaped by his warmth and generosity. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Wilma O’Neal, his father Otis O’Neal, his mother Edith O’Neal, and his daughter Dina Stirlachi.

Visitation will take place on August 14, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Orlando, located at 895 S Goldenrod Rd, Orlando, FL 32822. A funeral service will follow at the same location from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. David will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Cemetery, 2400 Harrell Road, Orlando, FL 32817, with a burial service at 11:00 a.m.

David Odell O’Neal’s life was one defined by duty, kindness, and an indomitable spirit. His laughter, wisdom, and devotion to others are gifts that will endure in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
