Delia Figueroa Velazquez

January 19, 1940 — November 22, 2024

Orlando

Delia Figueroa Velazquez, also known to many as Lely or Yaya, was born in Las Piedras, PR, on January 19, 1940. After many challenges in her health throughout the years, she passed on November 22, 2024. She joins both her parents, Eulogio Figueroa and Julia Velazquez, in rest. She was the youngest of 16 siblings and is survived by her sister Carmen Pagan who lives in Puerto Rico.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Luz D. Serrano and Nitza E. Serrano; her five grandchildren, Gabriel Gonzalez, Eric Maldonado, Lisa Ortiz, Alex Fuentes, and Vanessa Maldonado; along with her thirteen great-grandchildren. With a hefty family tree and a family consisting of both blood ties and bonds formed from the heart, Delia’s reach was as far as it was wide, and she was cherished deeply by many.

She worked for a very long time as a Social Worker in the city of West Chester, PA, with the school district welcoming and helping all of the Hispanic community in this small town. She decided to return to her home in Puerto Rico in 1979 to be closer to her roots. Here is where she battled breast cancer for many years and survived. She retired and immediately began her mission in creating many community outreach programs in the town of Humacao, Puerto Rico. She was a force to be reckoned with and even the mayor of the town could never say no to her. The one trait that anyone who spoke with her noticed was her beautiful smile and charisma. A trait she demonstrated everyday with her family and friends.

Services for Delia will take place on November 29, 2024, at 5:00PM at Newcomer Orlando. Those wishing to pay their respects and celebrate her life are welcomed. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Jude’s. She was always thankful for her healthy grandchildren and great grandchildren and donated constantly.

Delia’s loss is deeply felt by her family and all those who knew and loved her. Her memory will continue to live on and inspire strength, resilience, and generosity in those whose lives she touched
