Donald E. Potter

It is with profound sadness that the family of Dr. Donald E. Potter, Jr., 84, announce his peaceful passing on March 8, 2025.

Don was born in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, son of the late Donald and Madelyn Potter. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Paola Potter.

Don’s professional journey began at St. Petersburg Junior College, followed by The Pennsylvania State College of Optometry. He then began his military career in the United States Army where he met Paola who worked nearby his office at Kagnew Station military base in Asmara, Eritrea. They married back home and later welcomed their only child, Kelly.

Don continued his education by pursuing a Doctor of Medicine degree at The University of Padua in Italy, learning Italian as a second language. As an added bonus, Paola’s family lived in the area so they were surrounded with love and support while abroad. After graduation, Don and his family came home to the United States where he resumed active duty in the Army, rising to the rank of Lt. Colonel, serving through both the Vietnam and Gulf Wars.

After his military retirement, he worked for an additional 20 years as the Chief Medical Officer for both Dunham and Fillmore Army Health Clinics. A Fellow of The American Academy of Family Physicians, Dr. Potter received numerous accolades and awards in recognition of his service and commitment to the well-being of others.

Don was a devoted husband, loving father, and grandfather, known for his kindness, and ever-present calm demeanor.

He is survived by his son Kelly Potter and wife Tracy; grandchildren Madison, Olivia, and Logan; sister Francis Ring and husband Glenn; brother James Potter, as well as four nephews and one niece.

Interment Service is planned for August 21, 2025 at 2:00 in the afternoon at Birch Hill Cemetery, 1100 North Pine Street, Burnham, PA
