Elsie "Nana" Turner, age 97, of Orlando, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, to be with the Lord. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Jacqueline "Jackie" Miner (James) and Lindsay J. Hester (James), her son Kevin M. Turner (Kathleen), 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She reunites with her parents, Robert Leonard and Glenna Mythen Hunt; her daughter, Carol Diane Barber; and her sons, Steven Paul Turner and Gary Brian Turner.
Born on March 28, 1929, in Marylebone, London, England, Elsie often recalled surviving the WWII bombings of London by carrying her gas mask to the underground and sleeping on the platform. During the war, like many children, she was evacuated to the countryside for safety and lost her father when HMS Edinburgh was sunk in 1942. In 1960, she married USAF SSG James Turner and moved to the United States in 1962.
Elsie built her life in Azalea Park, living there for 57 years. She was a dedicated member of the Azalea Park Safe Neighborhood Association, and a supportive friend to her neighbors. For over 20 years, she managed the infant department at Kmart, Semoran/Curry Ford location, until her retirement. A member of the Moose Lodge and VFW, she shared her passion for karaoke with her great-granddaughter, Samantha. Even into her 90s, Elsie loved attending her Tuskawilla YMCA Silver Sneakers classes and made sure everyone received a warm hug.
Proud of her large family, she made a point to send birthday cards to her 63 children and grandchildren. Visits to her home always included tea and cookies, creating cherished memories filled with reminiscing and plans for the future, all brightened by her warm smile. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Miner residence, 3646 Coronet Ave, Orlando, FL 32833. All are welcome. For more information, please call 407-399-3596.
