Floyd Haywood Hayes, Jr. was born on March 3, 1933 to Floyd H. Hayes, Sr. and Doris Hayes of Suffolk, Virginia. He passed away peacefully at his home in Florida on May 11th with his loving family by his side.
Floyd is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Patricia Sawyer Hayes. He will be held in loving memory by his children; Cynthia Degner(Donald), Brian B. Hayes(Nickie), Jason T. Hayes, Charles M. Hayes(Holly), George W. Shoemaker, Jr. (Anne), and “the apple of my eye” granddaughter, Katherine Degner, along with much loved grandchildren and extended family.
Floyd grew up in Suffolk where he developed lifelong friends and joined his father as a member of the Masonic Lodge. While serving in the US Air Force during the Korean War, his duty station was in Japan. When asked about his service, he would say, “those were some of the best years of my life!” Floyd valued his professional relationships with all of the friends he made during his career with Baldwin and Gregg, Hayes & Associates, Cavalier Ford, Star Motors, Calvary Cars, and other business ventures. Floyd lived a life fulfilled by his love of family and friends. He was a true gentleman whose life was defined by compassion, strength, and deep dedication to those he loved. As he rests in peace, his words give us great comfort as he would always say, “the man has a plan!”
A Military graveside funeral will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia. Date to be announced
