Francis Vincent Surroca, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, just weeks after his 86th birthday, reached the end of his road. Now he rests in the loving arms of God.
Francis was born in Guantanamo, Cuba, on July 9, 1939, as Francisco, also known as Paco.
He excelled in school. During his last years of school, the Brothers of La Salle were recruiting young men interested in joining the congregation and becoming Christian Brothers of La Salle—dedicated to teaching. He left home at 15 years of age, but after six years, the Communist government expelled religious groups including La Salle, and Francis made the difficult decision to depart the congregation to remain with his family.
Upon returning to his hometown, he met and later married Thais, his wife of nearly 60 years. After moving to the United States, they started a family, having three sons, today all happily married.
He had great intelligence and excelled at every workplace, and he was especially gifted in accounting. He was a CPA and internal auditor for Kaiser Permanente. He also had a talent for painting. He made friends easily and was well-loved. His warmth and kindness touched many lives, and he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Thais, his sons: Francisco and wife Elizabeth, Sebastian and wife Melissa, and Alfonso and wife Kristin. Also his grandchildren: Trevor and wife Dominique, Tyler, and Elliot.
We will be having his funeral at Nativity Church in Longwood, FL on Saturday, October 18 at 11am.
