Listen to Obituary

Mr. Harold Lloyd Clarke was born in Cuba on June 10, 1932, to Ms. Alice Pottinger and Mr. Aubrey Clarke. In October 1932, the family moved to Jamaica, where they settled in Labyrinth, St. Mary. When Harold was three years old, his father took him to live with his aunt, Lovey, in Saint Catherine, Jamaica. He spent the early part of his life there, where he was well cared for and lived happily. He often visited his mother in Saint Mary.As a spirited and independent young man, Harold fathered two children: Donald and Pauline. At the age of twenty, his cousin Steadman invited him to St. Thomas, Jamaica, where he was given a laborer job by Ms. Hallinzed. He also worked as a butcher to supplement his income. While living in St. Thomas, he fathered two more children, Lillian (affectionately known as Cam) and Donovan. Driven to improve himself, Harold eventually secured a position at the Public Works Department in St. Thomas, where he served as a security officer for many years. During that time, he met Inez Brown, and together they had four children: Everton, Marjorie, Carol, and Oniel. In September 1969, Harold migrated to the United States and settled in Queens, New York. After finding work and establishing himself, he sponsored his children, giving them the opportunity to migrate to the United States as well. During this time, he met Silvena Howell. They married in 1970, and Harold adopted her grandchildren, Gilford and Carl. Their marriage lasted seven years. In 1978, Harold met his present wife, Gloria Parkin—it was love at first sight. They dated for four years and were married on September 12, 1982, in New York. He became the loving stepfather of Dorrell and Lamarcia.Harold continued working as a security officer at the International Design Center and later at Brucilla, until his retirement in 1997. After retiring, he and Gloria relocated to Orlando, Florida. By then, Harold was experiencing severe spinal disc pain, which made walking increasingly difficult.Harold was a loving, joyful, flirtatious, outspoken, and family-oriented man. There was never a dull moment when he was around. He had a deep passion for gardening, playing dominoes, and listening to music. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.In 2019, Harold suffered a stroke that left him impaired. He was placed in hospice care in January 2025 and peacefully passed away on August 15, 2025.
