Harriett A. Bentley

Harriett Anita Bentley, a courageous woman of unwavering conviction, a mother of 3, and a proud veteran, passed away on August 10, 2026 at the age of 73.

Born in Montgomery, Alabama, on June 10, 1953, she lived her life with a bold spirit, always speaking her mind and standing up for what she believed in. She graduated from Alabama State University (ASU) in 1975, a pivotal year that shaped the rest of her life.

In 1975, she married & answered the call to serve her country by joining the United States Air Force. Her dedication and sharp leadership quickly propelled her through the ranks. From 1979 to 1985, she served as the Executive Officer at Eglin Air Force Base within the Base Supply Squadron, where she crucially oversaw the operations of the base Classified Distribution Facility. Promoted to the rank of Captain in approximately 1981, she served with distinction in this capacity until her honorable separation in May 1985

Beyond her military achievements, her life was deeply anchored by her faith and community. She celebrated a meaningful spiritual milestone when she accepted Christ and was saved around 1982. She found a true spiritual home as a dedicated member of Zion Temple CCHL. She could always be heard raving about how much she loved her church and how deeply loved she felt by her congregation. She spread that joy through service, delighting in cooking delicious meals for the church every 1st Sunday.

Her commitment to fellowship was further reflected in her fierce devotion to Club Hadassah. She absolutely loved fellowshipping with the women in the club, and there was nothing that would keep her from the gatherings.

She leaves behind a rich legacy of strength, faith, and love. She is survived by her 3 children. Nicholaus Bentley, Ian Bentley, and Michelle Bentley her seven siblings Evelyn Proctor (Joseph), Woodrow Walker, Ralph Walker, Brenda Walker, Clint Walker Jr, Rosalyn Bennett, Christopher Walker, and a host of extended family members, friends, and church community members who will forever miss her fierce courage and bright presence

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clint Walker and Willella Walker-Giles and brother Raymond Colvin.
