Herbert J. Zwarra

Herbert Zwarra, age 96 passed away Sunday, July 19,2026, in Florida.

Herbert was born on March 14, 1930, in Watertown, Wisconsin, son of the late Herbert Zwarra and Lucille (Phillips) Zwarra.

Herbert attended St. Norbert Abbey Boarding school where he received his nickname “Don”. Herbert enjoyed a long career in the medical field. For many years Herbert was a supervisor nurse in a busy Emergency room at a Chicago Illinois hospital, and then he moved on to Maryland where he researched cardiology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He continued his career as a professor teaching medical technology at John Hopkins University. He received his commercial pilot license and purchased his own plane to travel from Maryland to Florida to visit his parents. He often would joke and express that this kept him poor. Herbert then retired and moved to Florida to help with care of his parents. He was a long-time member of the Annunciation Catholic church in longwood.

Survivors include his longtime caregiver Patty Bush and special friends The Capps family, cousins, other relatives and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Lucille (Phillips) Zwarra and his beloved sister, Sister Jessica Zwarra.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:15 am on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Burial will follow at the St. Thomas Cemetery with his parents.
