Jere Tolleson Groover was born in Orlando, Florida, on March 14, 1952, to Hugh Benton and Miriam (Tolleson) Groover. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved “nana,” Adelle Nutt Tolleson and niece, Jennifer Hough Graham.

After graduating from Orlando’s Boone High School in 1970, Jere attended Stetson University, graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor’s Degree in French language studies. During his time at Stetson, he also received a certification in 1973 from Switzerland’s University of Neuchatel Switzerland in French studies. Jere continued his studies at the University of Florida, receiving a Master of Arts degree in 1987. In 1994, he received a University of Richmond Certification of Recognition from his high school student, Kevin Baron, in 1993

Jere then taught French at Boone High School Orlando FL from 1976 to 2008.

After retirement, he then went on to higher education, teaching French studies at Valencia College for several years. During his tenure at Boone High School, he was the sponsor of the school’s French Club for many years, where he imbued in them his fondness of the works of Albert Camus and Victor Hugo. For several years., he combined his love of travel and scholarly pursuit by taking some of his French students to Paris once a year.

He was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Orlando where he ushered for worship services.

He is survived by his spouse, Jay Brewer Groover; sister, Judy Groover Hough (Harry) both of Orlando, FL; sister-in-law, Cindy Brewer Parker (Steve); niece, Courtney Parker all of Tuscaloosa, AL; brother-in-law, TR Butler (Aaron) of Westfield, IN; his nephew, Scott Hough of Mt Dora, FL; son, Nathaniel Groover and grandchildren, Jack and Harper Groover of Charlotte NC; and great nieces and nephews, Duncan Graham, Maggie Graham, Sara Hough, Zoe Hough, and Calloway Clanton.
