It is with great sadness that we share that Jimmy Glenn Darty passed away on January 21, 2026, at the age of 83. Jimmy was surrounded by his family in a circle of love as he departed this life. He was born on November 2, 1942, in Medina, Tennessee, to Jimmie “Ray” and Christine Darty.
Jimmy grew up working the land as a young man, farming, raising cattle and horses, and growing crops. Those early years instilled in him a strong work ethic, independence, and practical wisdom that shaped the rest of his life. As a teenager, Jimmy was baptized at Chapel Hill Baptist Church, and his faith remained a steady foundation throughout his life.
On June 14, 1964, Jimmy married Carolyn Sue (Kyle) Darty at Humboldt First Baptist Church, beginning a partnership of 62 years rooted in hard work, faith, and family. He was a devoted husband to Carolyn, a loving father to Melanie, Kevin, Mark, and Jeremy, a proud grandfather to Laura, Grant, Connor, Liam, Matthew, Ruby, and Birdie, and an older brother to Charles. Jimmy was the pillar of strength for his family—a man of wisdom, kindness, and steady guidance, always ready to lend a hand, listen, or offer thoughtful advice.
Jimmy spent 30 years with ITT Telecommunications, where he rose from the manufacturing floor into engineering leadership, ultimately serving as Manager of Hardware Design Engineering. During his career, he played a direct role in the evolution of modern communications, contributing to the transition from rotary phones to digital dialing, early mobile and cellular systems, fiber-optic networks, and the original 911 and E-911 emergency systems. His work also supported military communications during the Gulf War and power system design for U.S. spaceflight programs, including work alongside NASA engineers inside the Vehicle Assembly Building.
Jimmy and Carolyn shared a deep love for travel, especially Hawaii, a place that held special meaning for them. They returned many times over the years, often bringing their grandchildren along to experience the beauty and spirit of the islands together—creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
Jimmy was known as a builder, a problem-solver, and a storyteller—a man who lived through extraordinary technological change and helped shape it, while never forgetting his roots. His legacy is one of integrity, resilience, faith, and love. He will always be loved and deeply missed.
A funeral service honoring Jimmy’s life will be held at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be live streamed: Click to View Livestream
