Joan Frances Scott Placencia, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away September 8, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born on September 17, 1934, in Hammond, IN, Joan lived a life full of laughter, creativity, kindness, and joy. Being an avid bibliophile, her home could be mistaken for a small library, with books lining every wall.
Joan, being a lover of books, was often found reading with NPR playing in the background, and her cats curled up beside her. She frequently visited her favorite store, Barnes and Noble, with her list of books in hand. Joan loved to garden and was awarded “Yard of the Month” multiple times.
Joan had an infectious laugh that could light up a room, she brought cheer to everyone she met. Her sense of humor stayed sharp to the very end!
Joan was a gifted painter whose art reflected both her inner world and the environment she experienced while living in Indiana.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Hunter, and cousin David Mroczkowski and wife, Judy; her daughters, Star Sexton and Sandra Dreibelbis and husband, David; and her son, Ralph Placencia, III and wife, Laura; grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and great grandchildren.
Joan’s unique sense of humor, love of reading, knowledge, arts, and her zest for life, will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
