It is with profound sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of Joyce Anne Hostal, 76, of Heathrow, Florida who passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
Born on January 4th, 1950 in Youngstown, Ohio, Joyce was the daughter of Fred and Theresa Wagner. She graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School and then began nursing school at St Elizabeth Hospital where she met George, her devoted husband, in 1969. He was working as a surgical orderly and in his final year at YSU, and about to start his banking career in Cleveland. They fell in love quickly, decided to marry and moved off to Cleveland to begin their life and family. She had two children in the early 70’s, George Jr and Theresa, and ultimately she began her own career in banking and financial services that lasted for 40 years. It was one that began really on a lark as she would always tell it… with her husband already in the field, and wanting a career of her own, she thought about it one day and totally surprised her husband with a new job as a teller at a bank like him. That was Joyce! And what a career….From that initial job as a teller at Mahoning National Bank, to head teller at Euclid National in Ohio, on to deposit operations manager at Bank One to Vice President and head of deposit, check and items operations departments at TransOhio. She moved on to be a sought after bank consultant for years for multiple banks around the United States, and her final job was as a senior lead software developer in creating anti-money laundering programs that were sold by Fiserv, a leading Fortune 500 Financial Technology Company, to banks around the world. She always excelled. She worked hard, was sharp in her knowledge and knew how to “kill them with kindness” as she would always say. A beautiful woman, with piercing blue eyes, who was known for her great style and taste. She was sweet in a way that made everyone feel good about being around her, was truly unselfish and one of the most fair minded people you could ever meet. She enjoyed vacationing, listening to Manilow and Streisand, going to the movies, eating her candy, pistachios and fritos, and going out to dinner with her husband. They golfed together for decades. They were each other’s best friends, sharing a passionate love. Joyce was a great wife and George doted on her and cared for her in ways that could melt your heart.
Survived by so many who loved her, the sister of Jeanine Walsh (Jim), Janice Machuga (Steve) and Butch Wagner. She knew what it meant to be a sister and they loved her in turn. A grandmother to five, Malena (Theresa) and Anna, Kate, Jack and Trey (George Jr). She took wonderful pride in their growth and accomplishments and they cherished her warmth and giving nature.
And as mentioned, Joyce was the mother of two, and it was her most treasured vocation. To George Jr. and Theresa, she was the most uplifting and supportive mother one could imagine. A fierce protector who taught love, compassion and kindness to the utmost.
She will live on in the love that she shared and that all who knew her will spread.
Services will be held on Tuesday, June 2, beginning with a calling hour at 10 am at Newcomer Funeral Home at 335 E State Rd 434. Longwood, FL 32750, followed by a Catholic Funeral there at 11:30.
